René έγραψε:Can somebody tell me more about this rare printing with relief?
[Πρέπει να είστε εγγεγραμμένοι και συνδεδεμένοι για να δείτε αυτόν το σύνδεσμο.]Hi René,
Your stamp is interesting and exhibits common features with the stamp shown in this post (the photo- is from a recent Köehler auction; this stamp is also shown at the collectio.bid website). Specifically, the gum in your stamp seems to "invade" the paper fibers as is in the Köehler stamp. A lesser degree of gum "invasion" is also shown on my 10 lep block of 4 a few posts above.
A main characteristic of this rare print is the
strong relief. One can see a clear outline of the Hermes head from the BACK of the stamp. René, can we see a
scan of the back side of your stamp? I believe this stamp is on whitish rather than on cream paper.
It is likely a rare variety, relatively recently described, but
exactly "how rare" is difficult to say. I hope other members of the forum will have a more clear opinion regarding the scarcity of this specific print...
One word of caution: nowadays, there seems to be an explosion of "new" print, plate, color, paper thickness and other varieties described in these 150-160 year old stamps... While all these discoveries are wonderful for LHH research, one has to be careful in how much to "invest" in these novelties... Of course, this is my opinion only. The law of "supply and demand" ultimately determines stamp prices.
